Graphic Designer for Layout and Information Design + Illustration for nonprofit

We’re looking for a versatile graphic designer who can turn complex ideas into clear, compelling visuals across web, social, and print. This role blends layout design, information design, and lightweight illustration, helping us communicate policy ideas in ways that are accessible, accurate, and visually engaging.

Responsibilities

Layout / Publication Design

Layout white papers, reports, briefs, one-pagers, and other long-form materials in InDesign (or an equivalent tool).

Design flyers, event materials, and other promotional assets.

Ensure all publications follow brand guidelines, accessibility standards, and best practices in readability.

Information Design & Data-Driven Graphics

Convert data from Excel/Google Sheets into clean, accurate charts and graphs optimized for web and social media.

Create simple information design assets—flowcharts, diagrams, and visual explainers—to translate complex policy topics into easy-to-understand visuals.

Maintain consistency in chart styles, typography, and brand elements across all graphics.

Illustration & AI-Assisted Visuals

Produce simple illustrations, icons, and spot graphics that support our brand identity.

Help develop or maintain a consistent visual illustration style across platforms.

Create and refine AI prompts to generate on-brand illustrations when appropriate.

Collaboration & Creative Process

Work closely with policy analysts, writers, and the communications team to understand content needs and translate ideas into visual concepts.

Manage multiple projects at once, meet deadlines, and adapt quickly to rapid-response requests.

Qualifications

Can respond quickly to a variety of needs with a short turnaround time.

Strong proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (or equivalent tools).

Experience creating charts, diagrams, and basic data-driven visuals.

Comfort creating social media–optimized graphics and formats.

Strong understanding of layout, typography, and visual hierarchy.

Ability to simplify complex topics visually

Illustration skills (hand-drawn, vector-based, or AI-assisted).

Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Plusses

Able to empower and educate the communications team with basic InDesign training, creation of AI prompts and Canva templates.

Able to respond to tight deadlines and communicate during work hours

Experience at a policy organization, think tank, nonprofit, or newsroom
