Job Overview
Awen Solutions Group is seeking a Part-Time Wayfinding Designer to design and improve signage, maps, and navigation systems at federal healthcare facilities. This role blends graphic design, environmental design, and user-centered experience to ensure patients, visitors, and staff can navigate complex healthcare spaces with ease. The ideal candidate has strong typography and graphic design skills, is a strategic thinker, and is able to articulate design strategies in, narrative and 2D and 3D formats.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site assessments to identify navigation challenges in healthcare environments.
- Develop intuitive navigational systems (signage, maps, digital navigation tools) and guides that facilitate ease of movement through complex environments.
- Collaborate with facilities, patient experience, and clinical teams to enhance accessibility.
- Apply environmental graphic design principles to improve patient and visitor flow.
- Ensure compliance with ADA standards and healthcare design guidelines including the VA Signage and Wayfinding Design Manual
- Lead development of design documentation, technical specifications, and other materials for implementation in the form of sign location plans, message schedules, and detailing for fabrication.
- Coordinate with vendors for signage production and installation and post installation inspections.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Graphic Design, Architecture, or related field.
- Proven experience in wayfinding design, signage design, or environmental graphic design.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), CAD, Revit and similar tools
- Skilled at writing documentation for both existing conditions and future state narratives.
- Strong knowledge of accessibility standards, interior design, and architectural layouts.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare facility wayfinding experience.
- Experience with healthcare technology integration
- VA or federal wayfinding experience
