Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Director of the Office of Communications and Legislation, this position manages and produces major publications for the department and leads the creation of diverse graphic arts communication materials.
This role oversees the Forms and Printing Program, manages inventory of forms and brochures, and reviews/edits various departmental publications including forms, letters, and brochures.
Work requires a high level of accuracy, initiative, independence, and expertise in graphic design. The position demands extensive knowledge of modern techniques used in the development and production of complex publications affecting participants in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) and public sector employers.
Strong communication (written and verbal), editing skills, and organizational abilities are essential.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage the development and production of major departmental publications.
- Lead creation of graphic communication materials and design projects.
- Oversee the Forms and Printing Program, including inventory management.
- Review, edit, and prepare forms, brochures, letters, and related publications.
- Apply advanced graphic design expertise across assigned communication materials.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Forms design, composition, requirements, and editing techniques.
- Forms analysis and research methods.
- Proficiency in graphic design and forms-design software including:
- Adobe Creative Suite
- InDesign
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access)
- Knowledge of printing and graphic arts industries, including:
- Prepress electronic files
- Printing techniques
- Material purchasing for reproduction
- Ability to create and prepare file formats for offset/digital printing or online electronic publication.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Extensive understanding of PC capabilities and applications.
- Excellent interpersonal, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with state contracts related to printing.
- Knowledge of procurement processes (bids, RFIs, contracts).
- Understanding of state laws on records and forms.
- Knowledge of Records Management Program and its connection to Forms Management.
- Knowledge of graphical presentation techniques.
- Knowledge of editing and publishing standards and processes.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
