Position Overview

Nelson Media Company is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Newspaper Layout & Graphic Designer to assist with weekly newspaper pagination. This part-time role will focus on laying out 1–2 weekly newspapers each week, ensuring pages are clean, accurate, visually appealing, and print-ready. This position is fully remote and can be completed from your home or office.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and paginate weekly newspapers using Adobe InDesign
• Lay out news stories, photos, advertisements, classifieds, and special sections
• Ensure proper spacing, alignment, typography, and visual consistency
• Prepare final print-ready PDF files on deadline
• Collaborate with editors and advertising staff to place content and ads correctly
• Make deadline-driven revisions as needed
• Maintain consistent design standards across publications

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in Adobe InDesign (required)
• Prior experience with newspaper layout and pagination
• Strong understanding of print design principles and typography
• Ability to work efficiently under weekly deadlines
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Reliable internet access and ability to work remotely

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with weekly or community newspapers
• Familiarity with ad placement and modular newspaper layouts
• Ability to manage multiple publications on a rotating schedule

Schedule & Commitment

• Part-time position
• Typically 1–2 newspapers per week
• Flexible hours, with firm weekly deadlines

Work Environment

• Fully remote
• Work from home or your own office
