UpworkShare this job:
Project Description
I am self-publishing a 6″ × 9″ technical/industry-niche book titled “title to be provided later” for an oil & gas type of consulting work. I need a print-ready wrap-around cover (front cover + spine + back cover + barcode area) and a separate Kindle-friendly front cover image. The book is a professional scheduling/turnaround manual aimed at planners, project controls professionals, and engineers. The design should reflect a clean, technical, professional style — minimalistic but authoritative, with an industrial/engineering aesthetic.
What you will deliver
A fully print-ready PDF cover (full wrap-around) sized exactly per KDP (or other POD) requirements, with correct spine width based on 150-180 interior pages. Also, need the native word format if it exists in that format.
I have a PDF template if you need one to start with
A separate high-resolution front cover (JPEG or PNG) sized appropriately for Kindle eBook (1600 × 2560 px recommended, or 1.6:1 aspect ratio)
Appropriate placement for back cover blurb, author name, publisher imprint, and a blank 2" x 1.2" box for barcode on the back cover.
Source files (e.g. Photoshop .PSD, Illustrator .AI, or Affinity format) plus exported print-ready PDF and JPG/PNG for digital.
Professional typography with readable fonts suitable for technical audience.
Simple but strong cover concept — nothing flashy or overly decorative; professional, credible, and aligned with engineering/industrial-project controls branding.
Up to 2–3 rounds of minor revisions (layout, colors, typography) based on feedback.
Requirements
Experience designing book covers, especially for non-fiction / technical / professional books (6×9 format or similar).
Familiarity with POD printing requirements (bleed, spine calculation, barcode placement, cover templates).
Good communication and willingness to iterate based on feedback.
Ability to deliver final files within agreed timeframe (e.g. 5–10 days depending scope).
Portfolio of at least 2 prior book-cover designs (preferably print + eBook combination).
Preferred but not mandatory
Experience working on technical or engineering books (industrial, construction, project management, etc.)
Understanding of minimalist/industrial design aesthetic
Budget
$150–$200 (negotiable depending on quality and experience).
Timeline
Cover needed within ~5 days after award (can be negotiated).
