Senior Graphic Designer (Public Sector / Municipal Experience Required)

We are seeking a senior-level graphic designer with demonstrated public-sector experience to support ongoing and upcoming projects for government, public health, and grant-funded organizations.

This is a contract / freelance role (on-call or project-based), ideal for a designer who has worked with cities, counties, public health departments, transit agencies, universities, or other publicly accountable institutions and understands the unique requirements of these environments.

Our work prioritizes clarity, accessibility, cultural responsiveness, and disciplined execution over flashy branding.

Scope of Work (Examples)

Depending on project needs, responsibilities may include:

Designing and laying out long-form publications (reports, plans, community assessments, 70+ pages)

Creating data visualizations (charts, graphs, infographics, maps) from provided datasets

Developing campaign visual systems (not full rebrands)

Producing print and digital collateral (flyers, mailers, ads, social graphics)

Applying accessibility and inclusive design principles

Working within existing brand guidelines and approval structures

Participating in structured review cycles with public-sector stakeholders

Required Experience (Please Read Carefully)

Applicants must have

Prior experience working with public-sector or publicly funded organizations, such as:

City or county governments

Public health departments

State agencies

Public universities

Transit authorities

Grant-funded nonprofits

A portfolio that includes at least one public-sector or institutional project

Experience designing reports, plans, or publications longer than 30 pages

Strong proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop

Comfort translating complex or data-heavy content into clear visuals

Familiarity with accessibility considerations (legibility, contrast, hierarchy, health literacy)
