Senior Motion Designer for Live Event LED Wall Graphics (Testing-Critical, QLab Playback)

Project Overview

We are producing a 2.5-hour live pageant / awards-style production with continuous LED wall usage throughout the show. We are seeking a senior motion designer with live event and LED wall experience to design and deliver fully show-ready motion graphics.

Playback system: QLab

Important limitation: There is NO media server and NO live manipulation of content onsite.

Because of this, testing, precision, and discipline are essential to this role.

Scope of Work

This project consists of 6–7 core motion “sets” (visual environments) that will run throughout the show, plus supporting assets which will be static motion segments for non-active moments in show - We have access to stock video image files.

Core Deliverables

6–7 custom motion sets designed for

Long-form looping (10–25 minutes at a time)

Elegant, restrained motion suitable for a live audience

Supporting assets, including

Title moments

Sponsor slates

Segment transitions

Opening and final reveal moments

LED test render file(s) created specifically for playback testing

Final show-ready video exports (multiple files, clearly labeled)

Estimated total outputs: 20–30 final video files

CRITICAL: Testing & Equipment Constraints

This project requires a designer who understands that content must work perfectly before show day.

Playback & Equipment Limitations

Playback will be handled via QLab

There is no media server

There will be

❌ No live resizing

❌ No repositioning

❌ No real-time color correction

❌ No fixing margins or typography onsite

All timing, framing, motion, and readability must be baked into the final renders.

Testing Requirements (Mandatory)

You will be expected to

Design at the exact LED pixel resolution (provided at kickoff)

Respect LED safe margins throughout all content

Create LED test render(s) that include

Typography at multiple sizes

Motion at show speed

Color and contrast testing

Participate in test-review feedback loops

Adjust motion, font weight, spacing, or pacing based on test findings

Deliver content that is fully validated for LED playback, not desktop preview only

If your workflow relies on “we’ll see how it looks onsite,” this is not the right project.

What We Are Looking For

This is a senior-level role only.

Required Experience

Proven experience designing for

LED walls

Live events

Theater, concerts, fashion shows, or awards productions

Strong typography and restraint in motion

Comfort working at non-standard and ultra-wide resolutions

Experience creating long-duration looping motion

Ability to deliver final playback-ready files with minimal supervision

Nice to Have

Prior experience with QLab or similar playback systems

Experience collaborating with AV or event production teams

Familiarity with LED behavior (pixel pitch, shimmer, brightness issues)

❌ Template-only design

❌ Experimental motion without testing discipline

Timeline

Total lead time: ~90 days

Creative kickoff upon selection

Motion development, testing, and revisions

Final content lock prior to load-in

Exact dates will be shared with finalists.

Budget

We are budgeting for senior-level professional work.

Expected range: $8,000 – $15,000 USD

A flat project fee, or

A day rate with estimated number of days

Quality, reliability, and testing rigor matter more than speed.
